USA, UK to withdraw diplomats from Dacca
KARACHI, JUNE, 6.—The USA and Britain are withdrawing senior diplomats from Dacca. Reuter reports quoting foreign diplomatic sources in Karachi.
The American consul General, Mr. Archibald Blood, leaves for Washington on Thursday and will not return, they added.
Britain’s Deputy High Commissioner. Mr. Frank Sargent, will leave for London a week later, they said.
Neither has completed a normal term of service.
American sources explained that Mr. Blood went to Dacca on direct transfer from Athens and the time spent in both posits total led an average assignment.
British sources made no comment on the move of Mr. Sargent who took up his post in Dacca late last year.
Mr. Sargent was also involved in a controversy when the Pakistani Press said Britain was alone among foreign missions not represented at the swearing in ceremony at Dacca of the Martial Law Administrator. Lieutenant General Tikka Khan as Governor.
As the impending departure of the US and British envoys became known, top representatives of both the countries also have been on the move.
