Student unrest in Pakistan

NEW DELHI, JAN. 7–Rising incidence of student unrest has been reported from a number of places on Pakistan, according to Radio Pakistan, says UNI.
A number of case have been reported from different places in which angry students indulged in stoning buildings. There also attacked wine shops, the radio said.
In Karachi the students of a technical school locked up the principal. In Hyderabad, where President Bhutto had stopped on his way to Larkana on Tuesday to advise students to stick to their studies, students have attacked a number of wine shops and stoned buildings.
Similar reports have also been received from Rawalpindi, Lahore and other cities.
The radio also said that President Bhutto has appealed to the people to put an end to demonstrations.
Mr. Bhutto said the country was on the verge of bankruptcy and only increased production would help the workers.
A Reuter report form Lahore say s police fired teargas shells on Thursday to subdue 1.400 rioting prisoners who set fire to their prison factory at Gujranwala, 64 km from Lahore.
The prisoners started the fire to protest against refusal by prison officials to accept their demands, including speeding up the bail process and the hearing of pending cased.
The trouble started on Wednesday when a protesting prisoner set himself on fire and suffered serious burns.
