Bhutto confers with Yahya
NEW DELHI, SEPT. 13_Mr. Z. A. Bhutto conferred with President Yahya Khan in Karachi today, according to Radio Pakistan, says UNI.
Details of the meeting have not been disclosed, the meeting, however, took place against the background of Mr. Bhutto’s recent threat that West Pakistan could become another East Bengal if power was not restored to the people’s representative.
Mr. Bhutto was also reported to have said that his party would not support the army- imposed constitution adding that the Military Regime is harassing leftist patriots” in East Bengal.
BBC quoted this morning, a despatch from West Pakistan as saying that observers there were not hopeful that the Yahya- Bhutto talks would produce any tangible results.
Real differences seem to have arisen on President Yahys’s civilianisation programme which Mr. Bhutto has criticised as “half measures.” he has demanded total transfer of power to the elected representatives which the Government thinks is not possible at the moment.
