Yahya in Iran: Indo-Pak Ties May be Discussed

TEHERAN, Sept. 14 President Yahya Khan of Pakistan flew in here today for a two-day visit and was met at the airport by the Shah of Iran, reports Reuter. Informed sources said the two leaders are expected to discuss the crisis in Indo-Pakistani relations.
The President will also brief the Shah on developments in Pakistan and they will discuss bilateral and regional matters, the sources said.
The Pakistan President is accompanied by his Foreign Secretary, Mr. Sultan Mohammed Khan.
The English Language newspaper Teheran Journal said today that Iranian mediation between Pakistan and India over their current dispute was not considered improbable. “In view of the friendly ties Teheran enjoys with both Pakistan and India”, the paper said, “ it could play a more positive role than any other third party in bringing the gap between the two belligerent nations.”
The forthcoming 25th centenary celebrations of the Persian Empire in October, could provide a favorable opportunity to arrange a meeting between General Yahya Khan and Indian leaders attending the celebrations. the paper said.
