বাংলাদেশ থেকে আসা অসহায় শরনার্থী শিশুদের চিকিৎসাব্যয়ে অর্থ দেবার কারণে ভারতের সীমান্ত অঞ্চলের রাজ্যগুলোতে দূর্গাপূজার ব্যয় সংকোচনের সিদ্ধান্ত নেয়া হয় এবং সেই কারণে সীমিত আকারে সম্পন্ন হয় হিন্দু ধর্মাবলম্বীদের সর্ববৃহৎ পূজার এই আয়োজন। এছাড়া আমরা জানি, ভারতের সকল জনগণ ১৯৭৩ সাল পর্যন্ত রিফিউজি রিলিফ ট্যাক্স দেয় যা মুক্তিযুদ্ধকালীন ব্যয় মেটাতে নেয়া হয়েছিলো।
Durga Puja was the largest Hindu festival. However, during the liberation war of Bangladesh 10 million people went to India as refugees. To bear the expense for the treatment of the refugee children the people and local Govt of India decided to reduce their festival expenses so that they can donate that money for the refugee children.
