Qayyam Khan demands interim Constitution

AGARTALA, MAY 20 Khan Abdul Qayyum Khan president of he Pakistan Muslim League (Qayyum group), has demanded “an interim Constitution” for the country keeping in view of the tragedy that took place recently in Bangladesh, reports PTI.
An Associated Press of Pakistan report, published in the May 2 issue of Pakistan Observer, quoted Mr. Qayyaum Khan as having said this on his arrival at Karachi from Rawalpindi.
The president of the league was reported to have told newsmen that the future constitution must be in conformity with the basic ideology of Pakistan based on the two nation theory.
Mr. Khan said his party had no objection to an early transfer of power. But this transfer of power whenever it took place should be simultaneous in both wings of the country, he added.
According to another APP report, published in “Morning News” late last month, two former judges of the West Pakistan High court, two former Attorney General, two former Advocates General, two former presidents of West Pakistan High court Bar Association and four senior lawyers of Lahore have voiced their strong opposition to the transfer of power to any political party in West Pakistan before restoration of normalcy in the eastern wing. In joint statement they maintained that it would be a political blunder of the worst magnitude if power was transferred to elected representatives in one wing of the country, while the other wing remained under martial law administration.
