Pak plea for scrutiny of India’s claim
RAWLPINDI, September-19: The Pakistan Government has asked the U.N. to undertake a scrutiny of the validity of claims made by India on the numbers of “displaced persons” from East Bengal.
Earlier this month Pakistan’s Ambassador to the United Nations gave a detailed break-down of the figures of displaced persons concluding that 2,002,623 East Bengalis were in India.
In a letter to the Secretary-General containing these figures, the Pakistan Ambassador asked the United Nations either not to quote the Indian figures in its documents or to couple them with the Pakistani figures. Indian estimates are around eight million refugees AFP.
