Checkposts with Bangla border to be tightened
By A Staff Reporter, Border Security Force check-posts will be further strengthened between Bangladesh and neighbouring Indian States. A decision to this effect was taken at a top-level meeting in Calcutta on Tuesday, where Mr. R. N. Mirdha. Union Minister of State for Home, was present.
The decision was taken to prevent the entry of undestirable elements from India to Bangladesh and vice versa. The meeting also expressed concern over the possible illegal traffic in arms across the border into West Bengal, in view of the coming election. It may be recalled that State officials who had attended a meeting in Delhi over election matters recently, had explained that law and order was a major hurdle in the way of a peaceful election in the State.
The meeting, where the IG. Police, IG, CRP, IG. BSF, the Home Secretary, the chief Secretary and the Additional Secretary of the Union Home Minister were also present also discussed the problem of Pakistani Razakars slipping into West Bengal, to escape from the hunt now in progress in Bangladesh for collaborators.
Mr. Mridha will submit a report on West Bengal, including the law and order situation, to the Prime Minister immediately after his return to New Delhi on Thursday.
Mr. Mridha also discussed the progress of land reform in the State and the workings of the CMDA with the officials. Later he met the Governor, Mr. A. L. Dias at Raj Bhavan.
