Dhaka Jubilant over Peking recognition
From D. San Hindustan Times Correspondent DHAKA, Sept. 1-There is visible jubilation here over China’s recognition of Bangladesh to announce last night by an hour. Chinese recognition comes a week after the Soviet Union recognised the new regime and a few days of Indian’s official statement that it would continue its relation with the Mushtaque Government. With Premier Chou En-Lalis message to President Khondoker Mustaque Ahamed yesterday, Paking ended its stubbom refusal to acknowledge the existence of the State of Bangladesh for a little more than 37 months, although recently representatives of the two countries had a few confacts in third countries.
The Government-owned Bangladesh Times, which flashed the news in a banner headline, carried a story saying that in Peking Pakistan Ambassador Mumtaz Ali yesterday had met the Chinese Vice Premier. Mr. Teng Hsiao-ping.
Another report said a Chiness Party and Government delegation, led by a Polit Burreau member, Mr. Chen Asilien, left yesterday for Hanoi attend the 30th aniversary celebration of the founding of North Vietnam. The Hanoi celebrattens will also be attended by M. K. M. Kaiser, Bangladesh’s Ambassador in Rangoon and for years a popular Pakistan envoy in Peking before the birth of Bangladesh. Mr. Kaisar has left Dhaka for Hanoi. News About Chinese recognition was preceded by a Dhaka annuncement that Peking has agreed to by 4.000 tonnes of Jute from Bangladesh and that the consignment would be shipped between November and December. According to a report in Bangladesh Time the deal is a follow-up of the visit to China of a Bangladesh trade delegation last May, During that period, Mr. Kaiser also visit China. There has been some trade between Bangladesh and China through third country contacts, mainly Hong Kong and Singapure since 1973. The consignment of 4.000 tonnes of jute is the first official one between the two Governments.
