Mujib and others condemn assault on Bhashani

Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and other political leaders yesterday condemned the attack on the life of Maulana Abdul Hamid Khan Bhashani and demanded judicial inquiry into it to “punish the culprits”, reports APP.
Besides the Awami League leaders, others who issued statements condemning the attack included Mr. Justice S. M. Murshed, the leaders of both the factions of the National Awami Party and East Pakistan Jamaat-e-Islami chief Abdur Rahim.
Sheikh Mujibur Rahman said it was unfortunate that “some hooligans” made dastardly attack on Maulana Abdul Hamid Khan Bhashani and demanded immediate judicial inquiry into the matter to punish the culprits.

MURSHED
Mr. Justice Murshed said one might not agree with the views expressed by another but nobody had the right to resort to violence “Such a tendency towards lawlessness must be seriously resisted by all of us,” he added.

MAULANA RAHIM
Condemning the attack on Maulana Bhashani, the Provincial Jamaat-e-Islami chief Maulana Rahim said it was also “shocking to note that attempts are being made to implicate Jamaat-e-Islami in this respect.”
Maulna Rahim added: “I Like to state very clearly that Jamaat-e-Islami has no connection at all with this as the Jamaat does not believe in any form of violence and lawlessness for achieving political ideals.”
Sheikh Mujibur Rahman the President, All Pakistan Awami League, condemned “hooligans’ attack” on Maulana Abdul Hamid Khan Bhashani, reports APP.
Making a statement on the incident in Dacca yesterday Sheikh Mujibur Rahman said “It is unfortunate that some hooligans attacked Maulna Abdul Hamid Khan Bhashani at Sahiwal.
“I strongly condemned this dastardly physical attack on a venerable person like the Maulana.
I demand an immediate judicial inquiry into the matter and punishment for the culprits”.
The Awami league leader said, “every political party should follow at least a minimum norm of decency and constitutionalism in expressing its difference with other parties.”

MURSHED
The non-aligned political leader, Mr. Justice Syed Mahbub Murshed strongly condemned the dastardly attack on the life of the NAP chief Maulana Abdul Hamid Khan Bhashani at Sahiwal last night.
In a Press statement, he said “one may not agree with the view expressed by persons but nobody has the right to victimise for them.
“I cannot find adequate words to condemn such violence which is a denial of one’s fundamental freedom to ventilate one’s opinions on problems and affairs.
“Such a tendency towards lawlessness must be seriously resisted by all effort.”

MAULANA RAHIM
Maulana Muhammad Abdur Rahim, Ameer, Jamaat-e-Islami, East Pakistan, in Dacca yesterday vehemently condemned assault on Maulana Bhashani, reports APP.
In a statement he said, “The report of assault on Maulana Abdul Hamid Khan Bhashani at Sahiwal station is very much unfortunate. I vehemently condemn this unfortunate incident. It is also shocking to note that attempts are being made to implicate Jamaat-e-Islami in this respect. I like to state very clearly that Jamaat-e-Islami has no connection at all with this as the Jamaat does not believe in any form of violence and lawlessness for achieving political ideals. I strongly demand an early institution of judicial enquiry so that the nation may very well know that who are responsible for such nefarious acts and the culprits are adequately punished. In this connection I also urge upon the Government not be a silent spectator to these sort of activities only to allow others to take law and order situation in their own hand”.

MOHIUDDIN
Mr. Mohiuddin Ahmed, Treasurer of the National Awami Party (Requisitionists) condemned here yesterday the attempt on the life of Maulana Bhashani by paid agents of the Rightist reactionaries and religious fanatics,” reports APP.
In a statement he said the news of the attempt on the life of Maulana Bhashani at his railway compartment in West Pakistan “has come to us as the greatest shock. This pre-planned cold- blooded attack. We are sure is the outcome of a conspiracy,” he added.
Mr. Mohiuddin also condemned Jamaat-e-Islami leader Maulana Moudoodi to giving the call to his “henchmen to silence those who voice Socialism” and appealed to the progressive forces to come forward to face the challenge of the “Right reactionary clique.”
Mr. Ahmed added the attempt on the life of Maulna Bhashani was the outcome of the conspiracy “to negate the onward march of the present movement for the achievement of the people’s right by bringing down all the imperialist backed despotism.”

ABUL HASHEM
Mr. Abul Hashem, Director of the Islamic Academy yesterday deplored the attempt on Maulana Bhashani, reports PPI.
In a press statement in Dacca yesterday Mr. Hashem said that he was shocked to hear that Maulana Bhashani was “assaulted by some workers of Jamaat-e-Islami at Sahiwal.”
“This behaviour may be anything but not Islamic”, he said.
Mr. Hasam said, “According to Islam of Jamaat-e-Islami, Pakistan is the homeland of the capitalists and as such anticapitalist elements must quit Pakistan. How far this attitude is Islamic is for the people to judge,” he added.
