Mujib backs demands of journalists
(By Our Staff Reporter)
A second wage board for the working journalists should be set up “as soon as possible”, the Awami League Leader Sheikh Mujibur Rahman said in Dacca yesterday.
Talking to newsmen prior to his departure for Lahore where he will attend the meeting of the Central DAC, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman said the demands of the working journalists should be considered. He extended his full support to the “reasonable” demands of the working journalists.
Responding to a question, the Awami League leader said the Press and Publication Ordinances and all other repressive laws and ordinances carping the freedom of the Press should be immediately repeated.
Sheikh Mujibur Rahman said they (Awami League and all other political parties) had been demanding the dissolution of the National Press Trust and the return of all newspapers including those of the Progressive Papers limited to their “rightful owners”. He however, said while dissolving the National Press Trust the interest of the working journalists and all other employees “must be fully ensured”.
In reply to another question Sheikh Mujibur Rahman said, ‘so far the case of Associated Press of Pakistan (APP) is concerned, individual ownership should not all be allowed”.
