Mujib elected PAL President

LAHORE, March 7: Sheikh Mujubur Rahman was elected President of the Pakistan Awami League at the Central Working Committee meeting of the party here this afternoon.
Kazi Faiz Mohammad of Sind and Mr. Qamaruzzaman from East Pakistan were elected Vice-President and General Secretary of the Party respectively.
The Central Working Committee of the Pakistan Awami League which held its session today, was represented by 35 members from both the Wings of the country.
Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the newly elected President of Awami League told his partymen shortly after the election that the oppressed people of Sind, Frontier, Baluchistan and Bengal were equal because they were fighting against exploitation of various forms. He said his party stood for socialism.
Turning to another point he said full regional autonomy worked out in the Six-Point Programme of his party was not only to benefit East Pakistan but also other regions of Pakistan.
Later he told PPI that his party would work for greater interests of the people of both the wings of Pakistan and would try to evolve a social order free from exploitation.- PPI.
