Nixon’s message to Kosygin conveyed to Mrs. Gandhi
NEW DELHI, Nov. 30.-Contents of President Nixon’s week-end communication to the Soviet Premier, Mr. Alexi Kosygin, are understood to have been conveyed to Mrs. Gandhi here today, says PTI.
Official sources here confirmed that the Soviet Ambassador, here, Mr. Nicolai Pegov, today called on the Prime Minister and gave the message. But they would not divulge the details of President Nixon’s communication.
It was known that President Nixon addressed messages to Mrs. Gandhi, President Yahya Khan and Mr. Kosygin requesting them all to do everything in their power to prevent escalation of border incidents.
UNI adds: President Nixon is believed to have complained in his letter to Mrs. Gandhi that India was adopting “a more and more intransigent attitude” with regard to proposals for lessening the tension on the IndoPakistani border.
Mr. Nixon has referred to reports in the Western Press alleging India’s active assistance and help to the Mukti Bahini in East Bengal.
Mr. Nixon counseled restraint on the part of India and renewed the suggestion for a pull-back by the troops of both the countries.
