U.I. FORCE ON INDO-PAK BORDER?
The Karachi newspaper Dawn has speculate that President Nixon’s security adviser Dr. Henry Kissinger, was discussing the posibility of stationing United Nations troops in East Pakistan.
The newspapers Rawalpindi correspondent quoted foreign diplomatic sources as saying Dr. Kissinger was exploring the possibility of placing a United Nations force on the Indo-East Pakistan border a check “against the possibility of direct conflict between the two countries.”
But the Karachi “Evening Star” attacked the idea across eight columes on its front page saying “No U.N. Force on Borders.”
The Evening Star quoted an unnamed top Rawalpindi source as saying the force’s purposes could only be “to keep the East Pakistan issue give in international forums.”
“U.N. force has not been able to stop war anywhere in the world. “Evening star has stressed the importance of Dr. Kissinger’s metting with President Yahya Khan but quoted informed sources at saying “without the US attitude undergoing a drastic revision here is very little chance of any improvement in Pakistan- US. relations.”
The latest two steps the International Monetary Fund denying agreed credits and the World Bank postponing a consortium meeting for six month or more- has a completely shattered the country’s confidence in the UN,” the Evening Star said.
But all the English language morning papers carried coverage of Dr Kissinger’s visit to Delhi, which ended Thursday, and the … “Evening Star” said… “Pakistan would welcome mediation provided the intention is to facilitate the return of displaced persons to the in homes and not to internationalise the problem of this country” Rtr.
