BILLY’S MAIL BOX
Dear Billy,
I agree with you in disagreeing that Pak Adam Malik should resign on the question of recognising Bangla Desh or taking a neutral stand in the India Pakistan confilict, as suggested by Mr. Tan Eng Huain in his letter to you dated 17 January, 1972. Our Government did well by adopting a neutrautral attitude in the war between Pakistan and India. The Government could, however, sent some aid or relief for the Bengali refugees who were uprooted by the barbarous Pakistan army. The Government might have reasons for not doing so. There is still time to send assistance in the rehabilitation of the refugees who are coming back home after their country has been liberated. Any Government has to consider many points before recognising a new state. The recent statements by Pak Adam Malik show that our government knows the truth, understands the reality and is going to take a realistic decision in the matter of recognising Bangladesh. Pak Adam Malik has said, (t) Indonesia in closer to Bangladesh than Pakistan. (west), (111) Bangladesh liberators can stay on in Indonesia (IV) Bangladesh people can visit Indonesia, (V) Indonesian businessmen can do business with Bangladesh (VI) Indonesia will retain its consulate in Dacca. All these points show our Government’s interest and favourable attitude towards Bangladesh. Now that Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and his Government are in full control of the situation. I can assure Mr. Tan Eng Hua that recognition of Bangladesh by our Government is not to far. I only hope Pak Adam Malik makes the expected announcement before Mr.Bhutto recognises Bangladesh.
Yours sencerely,
