R.I. NOT TO INTERFERE IN PAK. AFFAIRS

April 12 (I.O.)

FOREIGN minister Adam Malik expressed the hope that Indonesia will not take sides in the struggle for public opinion on the East Pakistan crisis.

This hope was stated by Adam Malik to the press at the Department of Foreign Affairs, after having received the Indian Ambassador to Indonesia, Mr. Nadyam Melon, and the Pakistan Ambassador to Indonessa Mr. Abdul Gafur at the Foreign Department.

Malik said that both Ambassadors had explained their governments attitude on the development of the situation in East Pakistan.

He said, that he had told the Pakistan Ambassador that the Indonesian attitude was cleaner. The East Pakistani crisis constitutes the internal affairs of that country. “We are only deeply concerned with the large number of victims in East Pakistan.”

He said that he had told the Indian Ambassador that no matter how difficult India faced the present crisis in East Pakistan, “It should not cause tension between the two countries”.
