Resolutions passed at the emergent meeting of the members of the Dacca High Court Bar Association held on 22.2.52. with Mr. A. K. Fazlul Haque in the chair.
This emergent meeting of the members of the High Court Bar Association view with great concern the situation arising out of the Police firing made yesterday (21.2.52) on the unarmed and peaceful students with the University compound causing several deaths, innumerable injuries and other casualties.
This Association strongly condemns the action of the Police in opening fire upon the student while within their Hostel compound within the University area and elsewhere causing deaths of several students and injuries to innumerable persons-student and members of the public.
This Association condemns the action of the authorities in promulgating order U/S 144 Cr. P. C. and those Police officers who led the Police force should at once be removed from their present position and that an impartial committee be set up with a Hish Court Judge as the Chairman and the other political non-official persons as member to enquire into the acts of firing, lathi charging and other unjustifiable acts done by the Police. That the persons found responsible for the action be brought to book.
This Association with hearts ful of grief condoles the deaths of these students who lost their lives by the Police bullets and extends its sympathy to the bereaved families.
This Association express its deep sympathy to those who have sustained injuries at the hand of the Police.
This Association highly appreciate the attitude of the students in making their demands for the mother language of 4.5 cores of people forming majority of Pakistan, the status of the state language and expresses its unmistakable view that Bengali must be one of the State languages of Pakistan and demands for the same.
This Association calls upon the members of the Provincial Legislative Assembly and those of the Constituent Assembly representing the Province to take immediate steps for the implementation of the just demand of the Bengali language to be recognised as one of the state languages of Pakistan.
This Association condemns the uncalled for entry into High Court compound of the Police and some Army men and attempting to open fire within the High Court compound, which they did to-day, and in obstructing members of the Bar and legitimate public coming to the High Court.
This Association demands that the military occupying a portion of the High Court Buildings must be immediately removed therefrom and the premises place at the disposal of the High Court.
The next Friday, the 29th February, 1952, be observed as a day for fasting and offering prayer for the departed souls by the members of this Association.
