PAKISTAN STONGLY PROTESTS WITH BRITAIN
Pakistan has lodged a strong protest with the British Government over attacks on Pakistan by the British Parliament, press, BBC and other information media, official sources said Monday.
The protest note was given to the British High Commissioner who was called to the foreign office here on Saturday.
The note drew the Government’s attention to activities of the Bangla Desh Action Committee which it said had the publicly stated aim of destroying unity and integrity of Pakistan.
The Note also said the British aid to Pakistan until there is firm evidence of real progress on a political solution for East Pakistan amounted interference in Pakistan’s internal affairs.
Meanwhile in London the Guardian newspaper Tuesday welcomed the Pakistan Government’s protest to Britain over criticim of its handling of the stituation in East Pakistan.
“Good, very good”. the liberal paper commented. “It is encouraging to know that Western opinion still counts with the Yahya regime, that evan a disdainful curl of Sir Alec’s (Foreign Secretary Sir Alec Douglas. Home’s) lip leaves tremors in Dacca. Britain has hardly spoken out during the Bangla Desh tragedy. But we have not fawned or looked away”.
The Guardian editorial continued: “What does Sir Alec do next? He can circulate the Bottomley report to Pakistan’s aid givers. He can lobby Prasident Nixon’s dithering advisers. He can and must get the United Nations into action”. AFP.
