6,000 PLEDGE SUPPORT FOR BANGLA DESH
V, Mon.- More than 6,000 East Pakistanis converged on Trafalgar Square yesterday for a four-hour rally in support of the Bangla Desh Government.
After prayers for relatives back home the demonstrators marched through the street, waving banners urging President Yahya Khan to end the “genocide” of their country.
They handed a petition at Downing Street, asking Prime Minister Edward Heath for immediate recognition of Bangla Desh, and the support of the British Government.
A plea for recognition and support was also made by Mr. Zakaria Chouldhuri, a Bengali, who arrived last week as the “official envoy” of the self-proclaimed republic of Bangla Desh. No incidents were reported.-Reuter.
