Bhutto demands Sheikh Mujib’s release
Former Foreign Minister Mr. Zulfiquar All Bhutto on Tuesday urged upon the Government to release Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, President of the East Pakistan Awami League or try him in a court of law, reports PPA.
Addressing a gathering of students at the Institute of Engineers, Mr. Bhutto regretted, “a national leader like Sheikh Mujib who sacrificed a lot for the achievement of independence and did much for the people, has been levelled as disruptionist and put behind the bar.”
He disagreed with those who bought that in the garb of sixpoint demand Sheikh Mujib had been working for the secession of East Pakistan and said, “I do not think that six-point demand was a secessionist move and that Sheikh Mujibur Rahman who has been undergoing untold sufferings for reflecting the peoples opinion can work for disintegrating the country”.
Mr. Bhutto deplored detention of political leaders in general and that of Sheikh Mujib in particular and urged the Government set them free or to let them face the people.
