Another case of prejudicial speech
Trial of Sk. Mujib opens

Trial of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman opened on Saturday in yet another case of alleged prejudicial speech at Paltan Maidan on March 29, 1964.
Mr. M. S. Khan, Additional District Magistrate, Dacca, hears the case, inside Dacca Central Jail.
In this case, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman has been prosecuted for alleged sedition under section 124-A of the Penal Code.
On the opening day the court examined three witnesses-Syed Mannan Bukhsh the Superintendent of Police, Dacca, Mr. E. A. Chowdhury, the then City S. P. Dacca and Mr. Mohammad Husain, a Government Reporter.
Syed Mannan Bukhsh testified that he had lodged the complaint in the case on getting orders from the Government and a transcription of the speech of the accused.
Mr. E. A. Chowdhury gave evidence on the then prevailing condition in the city in respect of student movements, particularly in the context of mass arrests from Iqbal Hall.
The Government Reporter deposed that he took short-hand notes of the speech, took it home and did the transcription there.
Hearing adjourned till June 17. Public Prosecutor Mr. Abdul Aleem appeared for the prosecution, M/S. A. Salam Khan, Zahiruddin, Mashiur Rahman and Abul Husain for Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
