Mujib’s trial inside jail
Arguments in Sept.:64 speech case
(By Our Court Correspondent)

‘In deciding a question concerning the freedom between the subject and the Government the line of decision should be drawn in favour of the subject and not the Government said Advocate Mr. Abdus Salam Khan on Tuesday before the Court of Mr. M. A. Malik, Magistrate, 1st Class, Dacca.
| Mr. Khan said this while arguing in defence of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in a case where the latter has been charged under section 7(3) of the East Pakistan Public Safely Ordinance for delivering an alleged prejudicial speech on September 29, 1964 at the Outer Stadium, Dacca.
The trial was held inside Dacca Central Jail, Judgement will be delivered on October 24.
Quoting excerpts from the speech, the prosecution alleged that the speech intended to bring into hatred or contempt the Government established by Law.
Arguing that Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s speech was an usual criticism of the Government as done by a political leader, Mr. Abdus Salam Khan extensively referred to the Court the numerous decisions of the High Courts and the Supreme Courts of Pakistan and India where the people’s right to criticise the Government was upheld.
