Sk. Mujib to be tried in jail
(By A Staff Correspondent)

Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, President of East Pakistan Awami League will be tried in the Dacca Central Jail on and from August 8, 1966 for an alleged offence under the Defence of Pakistan Rules.
Ramna Police started the case against him for alleged prejudicial speech delivered at Paltan Maidan March 1966 after the Awami League Council conference.
Messrs Zahiruddin and Abul Husain advocates for Sheikh Mujibur Rahman went to the Central jail on August 3. for consultation with and instruction from Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in connection with the case. But they reportedly could not discuss anything with their client, for some police officers belonging to the Special Branch were deputed for watching the interview.
The Advocates then filed on August 5 a petition before Mr. Afsar uddin, the Magistrate, who will try the case, bringing the above fact to his notice and praying for orders for an exclusive interview for preparation of their case.
The Magistrate was pleased to pass orders directing that the accused should be allowed all facilities to defend himself and that no police should be allowed to be present during the interview of the lawyers with the accused in connection with the case.
