Mujib’s release demanded

DACCA, May 13: A well attended public meeting at the Paltan Maidan here this afternoon demanded immediate release of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and other political leaders held under the Defence of Pakistan Rules.
Organised by East Pakistan Awami League the meeting was presided over by Mr Hafeez Habibur Rahman. Vice-President of the Party and was addressed by the General Secretary of Pakistan Awami League Mr Zaheeruddin Ahmad and others.
The meeting through a resolution expressed resentment over the arrest of Awami League leaders for raising the popular demand of regional autonomy.
The meeting warned the Government that a country wide campaign would be launched in case the political detenus held under Safety Ordinance were not set free immediately.
The meeting through a separate resolution also voiced the demand for immediate release of the president of the Pakistan Awami League and other leaders including Malik Golam Gilani, Khwaja Mohammad Rafiq, Sardar Shauket Hayat Khan of West Pakistan. The EPAL urged the Government to withdraw the state of emergency and restoration of democratic rights. It critised the Government for allegedly using the DPR for political purposes.
HIGH COURT BAR
The Dacca High Court Bar Association today demanded the release of political leaders who were arrested here recently.
In an emergency meeting here the association criticised the Government for the use of Defence of Pakistan Rules to “victimise” those who held views different from the party in power.
Presided over by Mr Abdus Salam Khan, President of the Bar Association, the meeting also demanded withdrawal of national emergency. – PPA
