Mujib challenges Govt. Party on six-point
PABNA, Apr. 8:Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, President of the East Pakistan Awami League yesterday threw a challenge to the Government that if it secured 30 percent votes in a referendum on six-point programme, he would retire from politics, reports PPA.
Addressing a public meeting at the local town hall Maidan yesterday, the Awami League leader described his Party’s sixpoint programme as “life and death question, not to be taken lightly and said that “it was a Magna-Carta not only for the people of East Pakistan but for those of West Pakistan as well”.
The meeting which was addressed by other Party leaders namely Mr. Tajuddin Ahmed, Mr. Mizanur Rahman Chowdhury, Shah Mouzzam and Captain Mansur Ali was presided over by Mr. Amjad Hussain, MNA.
Sheikh Mujib explained the six-point programme to his audience and called upon them to wage a relentless struggle for getting the programme fulfilled, since “It was the surest way to make Pakistan really strong”.
He also called upon the leadership in the Party in power to “be reasonable and logical while considering political issues.”
Sheikh Mujib demanded “legitimate shares” for East Pakistan in the Armed Services and voiced his protest against what he called exploitation of East Pakistan in the economic field.
Earlier on Arrival at Nagarbari, Sheikh Saheb addressed a brief meeting of receptionists and gave a call for unity and readiness for greater sacrifices.
Sheikh Mujibur Rahman declared that he would give up his Six-Point demand if President Ayub Khan agreed to shift Pakistan’s capital to East Pakistan.
