MUJIB DEFENDS 6-POINT PLAN
‘Step to strengthen country’s foundation’

DACCA, March 20: Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the newly elected President of East Pakistan Awami League, today called upon the people to prepare themselve to launch a relentless, peaceful and democratic movement in the country for the attainment of his party’s six-point programme.
He was addressing a huge public meeting at Paltan Maidan here this afternoon. The meeting was also addressed by Mr. Zaheeruddin, General Secretary of the Pakistan Awami League .
Sheikh Mujibur Rahman replied to criticisms of the Pakistan Muslim League President count by count, and exhorted the people to make all sacrifices for the realisation of the six-point programme.
He declared that “no amount of threat or coercion. Would doesn’t the people from fighting of the attainment of this adjectives. If required each and every Awami Leaguer, would go to jail for the purpose.
Sheikh Mujib asserted that not a strong centre but strong East and West Pakistan would strengthen the foundation of the country.
This fact was amply proved during the September War when despite a strong centre East Pakistan remained “completely isolated and helpless”.
He also refuted the charge that they were planning for a greater Bengal. We want to reiterate the historical fact. We wanted to include United Bengal and Assam with Pakistan”, at the time of independence, he pointed out.
He said the future prosperity and progress of the country lay in the six-point programme which he described to be the “Magna Carta” for the people of both wings of Pakistan.
He said the proposal for empowering the federating units exclusively to heavy taxes was desirable because it facilitated full opportunities in Utilise own resources for the federating units.
The federating units, he pointed out, would always be willing to provide all the resources for the Central administration.
About other proposals included in the six-point programme he said these were adult franchise and sovereignty of legislature.
