Mujib criticises Budget proposals
DACCA, June 19 : Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, General Secretary of the East Pakistan Awami League, yesterday said that finance minister M. Shoaib’s new tax proposals would ‘hit hard” the masses, the middle class and the budding entrepreneurs. In a severe criticism of the central Budget he said he was stunned of the absence of any device to minimse the bone cracking economic hardships thrust on the masses in the name of development and Industrialisation. He dismissed Government’s Professions to break up cartels and check concentration of wealth in a few hands an attempt “to dissolve the concentration of (popular) thoughts on these subjects” most of the tax proposals he maintained will adversely off the common man LABOUR class. He said “I do not find one instance where by Mr Shoaib can claim to have made any concession to the poor and middle class people and the entrepreneurs of small means, particularly of East Pakistan. There is no provision ostensible for amelion ofing the pitiable condition of class IV employes and labourers and no scheme is there to check effectively the soaring price of essention commodities resulting mostly from the greed of the profiteers who thrive on the toils and tears of the labour class and the common consumers. –PPA.
