Sheikh Mujib Granted Bail

Following the issue of an warrant relating to a criminal case under Section 124-A PPC and 7(3) of East Pakistan Public Safety Ordinance, 1958 Sheikh Mujibar Rahman surrendered before the court of Mr. B. Alam, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Dacca, for bail on Tuesday.
He was granted bail of Rs. 2,000 (two thousand) with two sureties of the like amount.
The case was adjourned till June 22 for examination of prosecution witnesses.
This case arises out of an alleged statement made at a public meeting on March 28, 1964 which allegedly is seditious and tends to bring hatred against the Government of Pakistan.
It may be mentioned here that a similar case under the same Sections is pending against him in the court of Mr. B. Alam, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Dacca. This case has been adjourned till June 22, for examination of prosecution witnesses.
The prosecution case in brief is that on December 15, 1963 Sheikh Mujibar Rahman allegedly delivered a speech at a public meeting held in the Outer Stadium. The statement allegedly intended to bring hatred or to create contempt or to create disaffection towards the Government established by law is seditious. It was further alleged that his public speech exhorted the audience to bring hatred against the Government.
Messrs Syed Azizul Huque, Jahiruddin, Anwarul Huq, Shah Moazzem Hussain, Khandoker Mahboob Hossain, Manjurur Rahim appeared on behalf of the accused while Mr. M. A. Alim, Public Prosecutor appeared on behalf of the State.
