4-Party Joint Statement

The following joint statement was issued last night by the Leaders of Pakistan Muslim League Awami League, Jamat-e-Islami and the Nizam-i-Islam. reports PPA.
“Our attention has been drawn to a statement of the General Secretary on the National Awami Party published in the local dailies yesterday.
“We are astonished to learn that the NAP leader is surprised at the publication of the agreed list of candidates drawn out by four components of the COP and NDF. The crux of the problem was that even after long be liberations during five days in joint sittings of six organisations and inter-party parlys outside the sittings it appeared that the NAP representatives lacked in seriousness to come to an agreement between the candidates of NAP on their one hand and those of the four other components of the COP on the other. The representatives of NAP were not even ready to keep the unsettled seats open nor did they accept any definite time limit.
Therefore it was impossible for us to wait for them for and unlimited period keeping the whole nation in suspense. Thus we were compelled to bring out a list from amongst the candidates of the agreeing organisations.
We deplore to find that the NAP leader claimed that the decided to exclude the NAP on other four components of COP the absence of their representative. This statement is wholly incorrect. We discussed the problem with a representatives of NAP who was at that time present in the joint sitting but he did not suggest any alternative to us.
The signatories of the statement are:
Prof. Ghuam Azam (Jamaat Islami), Sheikh Mujibur Rahman (Awami League), Mr. Shafiqul Islam (Muslim League) and Syed Moslehuddin Ahmed (Nizam-i-Islam).
