Never Challenged Mujib to a contest
at polls, says Wahid

DACCA, Jan 19: The Central Commerce Minister, Mr Wahiduzaman, today denied than he had challenged the Awami League leader, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, to contest against him in the forthcoming election to National Assembly. In a statement, Mr Wahiduzzaman said :
“My attention has been drawn to a news item appeared in a section of Press, with regard to Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, seeking election from Gopalganj. I have never thrown challenge to Mr. Mujibur Rahman nor did I propose to do the same. In an airport interview with the newsman on the night of Jan 13, I said I propose to seek election from Gopalganj in the forthcoming NA election. When a reporter told me that Mr. Mujib was also seeking election, I said it is his choice and every citizen has got the right to seek election. The members of the Electoral College are the ultimate authority to whom they will vote for. The challenge and counterchallenge should be avoided, in my view, as far as possible.” –PPA.
