Fallow land should be ploughed, says Ayub
ASSURES ALL IRRIGATION FACILITIES TO FARMERS

DACCA, Dec. 27: President Mohammad Ayub Khan today urged the people of East Pakistan to grow more food so that it can achieve self-sufficiency in food.
The President, who was leaving for Karachi this morning on the completion of his four-day tour of this morning, told reporters at the airport that if people grew more food and brought under cultivation fallow lands, There was no reason why this province could not attain…
He said he had noticed a lot of land between Khulna and Dacca lying fallow. These lands should be brought under cultivation and in certain areas water should be pumped. Water rate could be charged for supplying water, If necessary, the President said.
The president was given a party send-off at the airport. The East Pakistan Governor, Mr. Abdul Monem Khan, provincial Ministers MNAs, MPAs, Prominent citizens, high civil and Millitary officials were among those who were present at the airport to see off the President and shook hands with him.
During his stay in the province, the President addressed public meetings at Dacca, Khulna, Bogra and Cox’s Bazar and visited the cyclone-affected areas.
He also met leaders of different political parties during his stay. The Opposition leaders, included Mr. Nurul Amin, Mr. Hamidul Haq Chowdhury, former Chief Ministers Ataur Rahman and Abu Hossain Sarkar and the Awami League Secretary, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
The Information Minister, Khwaja Shahabuddin, and Communications Minister, Khan A.Sabur and Information Secretary Altaf Gauhar also left for Karachi with the President.
Agency reports add:Talking to newsmen, the president said that we must make “vigorous efforts” to grow crops during the winter season also. He said there was enough opportunity for raising more winter crops and vegetables in this province.
The President said he was pleased to see that plenty of vegetates, winter crops and sugarcane were being grown in Bogra district. The people, he said, should work hard to produce more foodgrains. – APP/PPA.
