Ayub Alone Will Be Blamed, Says Mujib

Sheikh Mujibur Rahman the General Secretary of the East Pakistan Awami League said in Dacca on Sunday that if there was again a revolution on the country, the president himself would be solely responsible for that. -reports PPA.
The Awami League leader said this in reply to President’s oft-repeated observation that there would be coup in the country if the Combined Opposition managed to come to power. He was addressing a largely attended public meeting at Kashipur, about 15 miles off the provincial metropolis on Sunday evening.
In reply to President Ayub’s statement that he was ready to withdraw his candidature if an able candidate came in the field, Sheikh Shahib asked who would decide the ability of a presidential candidate, people or the President himself?
The Awami League leader criticised the economic policy of the present regime and asked where is the so-called progress and prosperity ensured by the Government. He lamented that the economic conditions of the common people were progressively deteriorating on the one hand and prices of essential commodities were soaring up on the other.
Begum Rokeya Anwar, an Opposition member of the National Assembly, asked people to be aware of the reactionary forces in the country. Among others who spoke on the occasion was Hafez Habibur Rahman, Publicity Secretary of the East Pakistan Awami League.
