Mujib’s Rejoinder To Waheed
(By our staff reporter)
Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, in a rejoinder to Mr. Waheeduzzaman has said that the student community of East Pakistan was intelligent enough to distinguish between right and wrong and also between their enemies and friends.
Sheikh Mujib failed to understand why the Minister, Mr. Waheeduzzaman chose the “solemn occasion of Independence day” to spit “venom” against the student community, against the Awami League and against him (Mr. Mujib).
The rivalry between Sheikh Mujib and Mr. Waheeduzzaman is too old. Both contested the 1954 election from the same constituency.
Sheikh Mujib took this opportunity to challenge Mr. Waheeduzzaman to fight the forthcoming election against him on the basis of adult franchise. He said the role played by Mr. Waheeduzzaman was known to the people and it was only because he spoke against the present Constitution that he was elected in 1962.
Mr. Waheeduzzaman, it may be mentioned, had said in a meeting in Karachi on August 14 that the students were misguided by politicians, Awami Leaguers and especially by Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
