Mujib’s Call to vote for supporters of Opposition

DACCA, Aug. 10: Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, General Secretary, East Pakistan Awami League, yesterday appealed to the People to vote for those Basic Democrats who would take a pledge to support the nine-point programme of the joint Opposition.
Sheikh Mujib was addressing a largely-attended public meeting at Rajbari Maidan of Jaydevpur last evening. He explained the objectives of the Opposition alliance prior to the forthcoming election.
The Awami League Secretary criticised the Government agricultural policy. He demanded a tax holiday for peasants who owned not more than 25 bighas of land and elections on the basis of universal adult franchise.
He also condemned the American aggression on North VietNam and expressed surprise over the Government’s silence over it. He wanted the Government to take specific stand on this issue. -PPA
