Mujib urges probe into Gopalganj by-elections
DHACCA, Oct. 20: Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, former General Secretary of the defunct Awami League, today made an appeal to the President of Pakistan to setup a high-powered judicial inquiry commission to probe into the Gopalganj byelection “afairs”.
Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, who returned here yesterday after a four-week tour of Gopalganj, talking to newsmen at a Press conference here today, said that the Government officials were directly taking part in the campaign against the Opposition” in the by-election held at Gopalganj.

Referring to the East Pakistan Governor’s election campaign, Sheikh Mujib said, “It had rendered ineffective the executive circular, asking the Government officers not to take part in the political meetings.” He said the Governor tried to justify his action by citing the fact that Khawaja Nazimuddin did the same during 1937 election in Patuakhali”.- APP
