BOTH WINGS AL UNITED ON FOREIGN POLICY
Mujib’s Rejoinder To Usmani
Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, former General Secretary of the now defunct East Pakistan Awami League categorically stated in Dacca yesterday that there was no difference of opinion between the East and West Pakistan Awami League regarding foreign policy, reports PPA. He was commenting on a statement of Mr. Mahmoodul Huq Usmani, General Secretary of the defunct All-Pakistan National Awami Party that the information of a National Democratic Party might not be possible on an all Pakistan basis because of a different stand on foreign policy of Awami League Party in East Pakistan”.
In a statement issued to the Press Sheikh Mujibur Rahman maintained: “Mr.Usmani clearly makes a positive attempt to make the people believe that formation of a National Democratic Party is not possible for the stated obstacle created by East Pakistan Awami League”. “This”, he went on, is not at all the fact. On the contrary, It seems to be a clever device to wedge a rift between East and west Pakistan Awami League and to throw the blame for failure till now to form an NDP on East Pakistan Awami League”.
Sheikh Mujibur Rahman declared categorically that there is no difference of opinion between the East and west Pakistan Awami League regarding foreign policy”.
“On the other hand, those of us who are in the NDF have been getting the best possible co-operation from the rank and file of the East Pakistan NAP except a few leaders who are the real obstacles in the way of working together for a democratic Constitution for the country.” Concluding Sheikh Mujibur Rahman hoped that nobody can be “duped and misguided” by Mr.Usmani’s reported statement.
