Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, former General Secretary of the now defunct East Pakistan Awami League, issued the following statement to the Press on Tuesday:
“The new ordinances promulgated by the President imposing fool-proof bars on EBDOed politicians is a new chapter added to the repressive laws of regimentation having no parallel example in any other democratic country. The all powerful President seems to be depending on, and guided by, a handful of political orphans who have neither the people’s backing nor the will to restore democracy in the country. It is now crystal clear that the president and his henchmen have set for the most authoritarian way of statecraft.
