‘Extensive Movement For ‘New Constitution’
MUJIB’S HINT

(BY our Staff Reporter)
The former General Secretary of the East Pakistan Awami League, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, broadly hinted yesterday that an “extensive movement” would be launched for a ‘new constitution” and for the restoration of “full democracy” In Pakistan.
A “comprehensive plan” embodying the basic principles of the “movement”, was already being worked out and, in fact, the outlines had been determined, but the whole plan would be discussed at the proposed convention of all political parties, scheduled to be held in Dacca, he further indicated. Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, a signatory to the joint statement by the nine leaders, would not say whether the decision for not reviving Awami League had the “sanction” of the party chief, Mr H. S. Suhrawardy. But he said with conviction that nobody could know Mr. Suhrawardy better than he (Sheikh Mujib) and Mr. Ataur Rahman Khan, the former Chief Minister of East Pakistan.
The former Awami League leader also asserted that the “unity” of political parties in East Pakistan would be maintained at all stages of the “democratic struggle.”
Speaking about the chances of the revival of the Muslim League, in East Pakistan, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman said he could not visualise it without the participation of Mr. Nurul Amin, the former Chief Minister of the province, and the former General Secretary, Shah Azizur Rahman. Both of them were against revival of the party, he said.
Commenting on the role likely to be played by the National Awami Party, he said the former General Secretary, Mr. Mahmud Ali, was already in full agreement with other political leaders on the question of revival of the party and the need for a new constitution.
