Bangla Desh Rules Out Political Settlement

NEW DELHI :- Tajuddin Ahmed, self-appointed Premier of Bangla Desh (East Pakistan), Wednesday ruled out any political settler. :nt of the East Bengal crisis “within the framework of Pakistan”.

Ahmed, in an interview “some where in Bangla Desh” published in the English language daily “statesman” of calcutta, asserted that “Bangla Desh is a sovereign and independent nation”. .

His remarks were broadcast over a national hookup of all India radio.

He said he has no knowledge of Pakistans proposed political settlement. He said the efforts of “Bangla Desh” emissaries touring various countrics were bearing fruit in creating favourable public opinion.

Referring to the “foreign policy of his government”, Ahmed said “Bangla Desh” wanted friendship with all countries especialy its neighbours. He said electorate policy was yet to be evolved.

He said he did not know where Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Awami League Leader, had been kept under detention. He claimed several area in East Pakistan were under the administration of his “Government.”

Condition for improving relations 

India’s High Commissioner to Islamabad B.K. Acharya Wednesday said relations between India and Pakistan would improve only when Pakistan agreed to take back four million refugees now living in camps in India.

He was speaking to newsmen in Indian Ferozpur after crossing from Pakisan.

Acharya said the Pakistan Army was guarding the houses of India’s Deputy High Commissioner and other Indian Diplomatic staff in Dacca who were running short of money and food.

Money had been sent to them from the High Commission in Islamabad and distributed through Pakistan police, but the deputy high commissioner had been allowed only one telephone call to contact his superiors in Islamabad,-AFP.
