20 Pakistanis killed

JALPAIGURI, SEPT. 17 (UNI) – Fierce fighting between Mukti Bahini and the Pakistani Debiganj and Thakurgaon sectors in Dinajpur near the Chaulhati border in Jalpaiguri district today.
The Mukti Bahini killed at least 20 Pakistani troops at Tokapara, Danakata and the Tetulia-Thakurgaon area in the past few days.
The Mukti Bahini has also captured an area of 32 km in Thakurgaon and arrested 15 Razakars and brought them for trial at Tetulia, which is now under its control.
In the Rangpur sector six Pakistani soldiers were killed when their truck hit a mine laid by freedom fighters in the Dimla area.
Guerillas ambushed an army patrol the following day in the Dinajpur area. They also attacked the houses of several collaborators in the Alinagar area and captured arms.
Two Pakistani gunmen were killed when the guerillas hurled powerful grenades on a Pakistani gun-boat at Harinagar in Khulna district on Sept. 13.
The reports said that during a seven-hour encounter the gun-boat was seriously damaged and finally sank. The freedom fighters thereafter made a strategic retreat.
Another report said one army officer and two soldiers were killed near Sylhet town on Sept. 11 when their jeep was ambushed by guerillas. At least two more Pakistani soldiers were killed and several injured in another surprise attack by freedom fighters near Berlakha.
A passenger train was damaged by dynamite explosions between Dacca and Narayanganj.
