REFUGEE CAMPS

Foreign Agencies Asked Not To Send Their Men, From Our Special Representative, NEW DELHI, JULY 21 – India has “generally advised” foreign agencies not to send personnel to refugee camps or keep them there for long.
While appreciating the help of foreign agencies the Indian authorities point out that presence of nationals from other countries adds to administrative burdens. They, therefore, I hope that foreign teams, currently engaged in relief operations, would leave after their job is over. The Government, however, has not set any deadline – and there is no confirmation of the recent statement by Col. P N Luthra, Additional Secretary. Rehabilitation Ministry that foreign personnel had been given a fortnight’s notice to quit.
India, it is pointed out, is no short of doctors and nurses and there have been numerous offers for work in refugee camps from people all over the country.
