20,000 More Arrive At Bongaon
From Our Staff Correspondent, DUM DUM, JULY 24. – Plodding through rain and mud, about 20,000 evacuees from Bangladesh entered the Bongaon Subdivision of 24Parganas, today, Most of the people came through different points in Bagda and some through the Boyra area.
A knowledgeable source said today’s influx comprised people from different parts of Faridpur and Barisal districts in Bangladesh. The source said 29 reception camps had been set up in the Bongaon subdivision. On their arrival, the evacuees were given food and after necessary medical examinations and registration they will be sent to different camps. For lack of accommodation in camps, some refugees had been forced to take shelter under roadside trees.
An authoritative source said that during the week about 50,000 people arrived in the Salt Lake area in Dum Dum and about 15,000 took shelter at Barasat. All these people came from the Bongaon area, the source said.
