Refugee influx touches eight million mark
NEW DELHI, JULY 31. – The refugee influx has now reached almost the eight million mark, according to latest reports, writes NUI.
The reports put the figure of refugees last week at 7,098,809. The State-wise break-up of arrivals from East Bengal is as follows:
West Bengal 53,45,148; Assam 2.37.737; Meghalaya 3,09,645; Tripura 11,97,838; Bihar 3,441.
Of the 5.3 million refugees in West Bengal, 1,46,803 refugees were dispersed to central camps in other States up to July 27.
From Tripura 24,118 refugees out of 11,98 lakhs were dispersed to Assam up to July 26.
