From Our Gauhati Office, JULY 5 – The Central Coordination Committee of Bangladesh Sahayak Samiti has chalked out a programme of action for the maintenance of peace and tranquility in the “sensitive” northeast region, according to Mr. Baliram Bhagat, MP a leading member of the Coordination Committee.
Mr. Bhagat who has been touring border districts in this region since July 1, said here that the programme aimed at creating an understanding between the local people and the evacuees and fighting all extremists communal and divisive forces on the political plane.
To implement the programme a five man committee with Mr. Sarat Chandra Sinha now Chairman of Oil India Limited as President is being formed with a member each from Tripura and Meghalaya and two others from political parties having “similar outlook”.
The regional committee will organize a small sub-committee in each of the border districts of Assam and Meghalaya and one or more in Tripura. This small committee will affect coordination among the activities of various voluntary organizations for evacuees relief and assistance, now functioning in this region. Besides, they will maintain a constant touch with Bangladesh leaders.
Trained social workers, guided by the regional or district committees will educate evacuees in their camps about developments in Bangladesh in addition to helping them in their daily chores. Other groups, also politically conscious, will work among the local people and try to remove their misgivings about evacuees.
