Generous response from British People
From our London Office. June 11. – The British people have responded most generously to the appeal for contributions for refugees relief in India, an OXFAM spokesman said yesterday. She said it was “amazing” the way contributions were pouring in. Since Monday they have been receiving something like 4,000 letters everyday with an average contribution of £7 per letter. There have been hundreds of people – nurses, doctors and just ordinary people – offering to go to India to help as volunteers.
War on Want said : “The money is just pouring in. There has been an immediate response.”
Mailing “bulging with cash” and offers of help are arriving at charity offices in London.
