Bangla evacuees in Dhanbad
From our Own Correspondent, DHANBAD. JUNE 16. – Evacuees from Bangladesh have started reaching this district also. According to an official estimate nearly 800 evacuees have reached Maithon and Panchet Dam sites. Nirsha and Bhuti township near Dhanbad. Unofficial estimates however place the figure somewhere between 1,000 to 1,500.
A number of evacuees, mostly Hindus, belong to professional classes. Such as doctors, lawyers and teachers and they have been accommodated according to sources. With their relatives at Huapur Mohalla.
When contacted the Deputy Commissioner of Dhanbad stated that the Government was making preparations to receive these evacuees and making arrangements for setting 80 families in and around Dhanbad.
The Block Development officer of Dhanbad has been placed in Charge of these evacuees from Bangladesh Evacuees also include a number of Muslim families and suite a number of Marwari business men who have been accommodated with their relatives and friends here.
Meanwhile there is a public scare about the spread of cholera epidemic and demand for mass inoculation. There is an acute shortage of cholera and typhoid vaccines in these areas.
