Malik, former Ministers held
DACCA, DEC. 24- Dr. A. M. Malik, former Governor of East Bengal under Pakistani military regime and his erstwhile ministerial colleagues were taken into custody today. reports PTI.
Others detained included Mr. Fazlul Kader Choudhury, President of the banned Convention Muslim League and Dr. Sajjad Hossain, Vice-Chancellor of Dacca Universtiy.
The former Ministers detained today were: Mr. Abdul Quasim, Mr. Nawjiha Ahmed, Mr. Abbas Ali Khan, Mr. Akhtar Uddin Ahmed, Mr. Mohammed Ishaque, Mr. Jasimuddin, Mr. A. K. Yusuf and Mr. A. S. Suleiman.
Announcing a sweeping rounding up of collaborators, an official bulletin tonight also listed 15 former high-ranking officials, including the Chief Secretary and some Secretaries. Almost all of them belong to West Pakistan.
Dr. Malik and his former colleagues tendered their resignations on December 15 and had taken shelter in Hotel Intercontinental which had been declared a neutral zone. All of them were subsequently removed to the Dacca cantonment under Indian Army custody.
Official bulletin also announced the arrest of a number of members of the all Badar of the West Pakistan based Jamiat-e-Islami which was instrumental in wiping out at least 300 intellectuals in Dacca alone.
