Talking to newsmen, Mr. Ahmed said the surrender of the Pakistani Troops at Dacca today was a “great landmark in the history of the liberation struggle.”
“We hope that Pakistan and her friends would take a lesson from today,” Mr. Ahmed said.
He paid warm tributes , GOC-in-Chief, Eastern Command and his officers and men. He also praised the officers and men of the Indian Air Force and navy for their magnificent job.
The Prime Minister warned the Yahya regime that if it continued its attacks on India in the Western sectors, members of the Bangladesh liberation forces would fight alongside the Indian Army.
Mr. Ahmed expressed the deep gratitude of his Government and the people of Bangladesh to India, Soviet Union, Poland and other countries, which had supported Bangladesh in times of need.
“We are at the moment busy with administrative and other allied questions. The Cabinet is in session almost round the clock to review the situations” he told a questioner.
He said that no decision had yet been taken to rename Dacca as Mujibnagar. But added that the seat of the central government should be named after the father of the nation.
The new Bangladesh civil administration is expected to take over in Dacca tomorrow, adds UNI.
