Free Bangladesh To Join Commonwealth

NEW DELHI, Sept. 8 – Mr. K. M. Shahabuddin the Bangladesh representative here said today that Bangladesh as a free country would like to join the commonwealth “because of certain facilities available to its members” reports UNI. He made this observation at a luncheon meeting at the Press Club of India here.
Mr. Shahabuddin said that was the reason why Mr. Hussain Ali had been named the “High Commissioner” of Bangladesh to India with headquarters in Calcutta. Mr. Ali would move to Delhi at the appropriate time, he added.
He said Bangladesh forces were now “not unarmed, untrained and unsupported”. However, he declined to disclose the sources from which the Mukti Bahini were getting arms. He also said that “nine-tenth of Bangladesh territory is under our control.”
