Bangla teachers body criticizes Galbraith

By A Staff Reporter, In a Press statement Dr. A. K. Roy, Secretary, Bangladesh Sikshak Samiti, criticized Prof. Galbraith’s statement to the Press that the only solution to the Bangladesh problem was to grant ‘self government or autonomy in some form or the other’.
Dr. Roy asserted that nothing short of an independent Bangladesh would be acceptable to the 75 million people there. It was strange that the U.S. Government should supply arms to Pakistan and send assistance to the refugees at the same time. The statement expressed concern at the report that American military equipment were being shipped to Pakistan from Vietnam and services of American experts on guerilla warfare were being placed at the disposal of General Yahya Khan. It appealed to Prof. Galbraith to mobilize public opinion in his country to put pressure on the Nixon Administration to change its present policy.
Dr. Roy also requested the people and the Government of the U.S.A and China to recognise the sovereignty of Bangladesh, stop all aid to General Yahya’s Government and put pressure on it to release Sheik Mujibur Rahman along with all other political prisoners.
